Introvert’s Guide to Comic-Con: The Cruise: 10 Ways to Enjoy Your Voyage

One of the great things about being on Comic-Con: The Cruise is being part of a community.

It’s a wonderful way to make new friends and connect with folks who love the things you do. But what if you’re an introvert? Listen, I get it. I’ve spent my fair share of time in my own Fortress of Solitude, and I even wrote a book about what to do when you’re a non-people person. The good news is that the cruise is packed with options for anyone who doesn’t thrive on constant social interaction. Whether you’re a solo traveler, only want to hang out with the people you came with, or just need some quiet time, there’s a whole universe of opportunities to enjoy the voyage at your own pace.

Even if you’re normally a homebody, there’s something decidedly decadent about staying in your own space on vacation. Since your cabin is just a short walk from literally everything else to do on the ship, it’s the perfect sanctuary for you to return to whenever you want. Go back to your cabin for a daytime nap in between panels, a “disco nap” to recharge before the nighttime parties start, enjoy the views from the balcony, or just chill out watching one of the channels on the in-room televisions dedicated to Comic-Con: The Cruise programming.

The ship is full of cozy spots where you can settle in and enjoy the constant stream of shows and movies playing on the screens. Or even better, be like a Watcher from the Marvel multiverse and observe the endless parade of incredible cosplayers passing by.

Libraries are often an introvert’s safe haven, and it’s no different on Comic-Con: The Cruise. Bring your own book, tablet, or Switch (and your headphones) and enjoy the blissful quiet with other folks focused on their own things.

One of the nice things about walking around the ship is that you can literally walk around the ship. Even if you totally zone out, there’s no worry about getting lost, dodging people, or winding up miles from where you started. You can totally zone out, get your steps in, and wind up exactly where you started. So put on your headphones, play music, a podcast, or an audio book, and get your steps in.

Nassau is a wonderful place to explore, but there’s a certain magic to staying on the ship when folks go ashore. A Port Day may be the perfect time for you and a pal to take a dip in the hot tub, use one of the larger tables for a puzzle or board game, or explore spaces that might have been too crowded on a Sea Day. You’ll feel like you have the ship all to yourself.

There aren’t any reserved seats at onboard panels or shows. You can sit wherever you like—including and especially the ones that aren’t next to anyone!

Attending a party or event on land can be overwhelming, even with an extroverted friend or partner. But on the cruise, you can dip in-and-out of any of the nighttime parties at your leisure. So feel free to hang out on the sidelines to watch the Pink Prancing Pony action on the dance floor or karaoke stage without any pressure to join in.

Many introverts are avid readers, so what better way to spend an hour than by attending the onboard Book Club (hosted by me!). It’s a great way to gain new perspectives, get new ideas and recommendations for your TBR (to be read) pile, and spend time with other bookish people in a low-pressure, conversation-driven environment.

There is absolutely no rule that says you have to eat with people you don’t know. If the main dining room feels a bit too much for you, you can either plan to go during an off-hour or request a smaller table for yourself or your party. But there will always be perfect-for-introvert options when you make a reservation at one of the specialty restaurants or at the Oceanview Café buffet. And, of course, don’t forget about Room Service!

The cruise will have no shortage of interactive events, from trivia games and bracket challenges to clue hunts and celebrity-lead workshops. Whether you’re with a pal, partner, or going solo, you can always participate at your own comfort level.

While it might seem like Comic-Con: The Cruise needs to be a nonstop social affair, it’s actually a perfect place of introverts just like you (well, us). I can’t wait for us to be together—and alone—on board!
