Thomas Surprenant is an Emmy award-winning special effects and makeup artist with over 30 years of film and television experience. Best known for his work throughout the Star Trek universe, which, earned him three Emmy nominations and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Makeup for a Series, he has also worked on fan-favorite TV series, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Mad Men, and The Wire.

Thomas was part of two Academy Award-winning makeup crews for the feature films Frida and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and worked on films such as Donnie Darko, Batman Returns, X-Men: The Last Stand, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.

From an early age, Thomas was fascinated by classic horror films and creature features. They sparked his life-long love of the horror and sci-fi genres and fueled his signature style of melding the supernatural with stark realism.

Thomas is the founder of Thomas Surprenant Creations, which provides makeup and special effects products for film, television and print projects. His products have been used in films such The Scorpion King, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, among many more.

We’re excited Thomas will be working his magic on the inaugural sailing of Comic-Con: The Cruise!
